I’m not changing a topic at all. You’ve tactfully ignored the bit that Steam does this, too…so Red Orchestra 2 on Steam will have this exact same issue.
In fact, any online services (any MMO will have this as well, btw) have to collect this information in order to function. Any anti-cheat programs do this by their very nature as well to detect whether or not their game is being interfered with.
IP Address is needed to connect to the computer and transfer the game you’ve purchased, patches and DLCs.
The bits referring to Software and Software Usage are (as it says right afterwards) to facilitate Software Updates and Dynamic Content (i.e. DLC). Origins will check whether you own Game X, Y or Z and whether you have it installed and will then patch it (just like Steam does). Regards DLC it will check whether you own it, or the game it’s for and then offer it to you…it has to get access to that information somehow…just like Steam does.
Like I said - nothing new here at all. All companies that collect information these days have the clause in it that they may share it with third party services. In fact any Agreement or Contract you sign or agree to these days where you put your name down (be it for your Phone Carrier, Supermarket or Game Providers) state this.
Dude, we get you don’t like BF3. No one’s forcing you to buy it…but don’t make it personal, just because you love RO2. I don’t and any interest I might have had in it, truthfully, is waining rapidly because these posts.
Do I like the fact that increasingly more and more information about me is being stored all over the internet? No.
Do I like that all companies, no matter which, have taken it upon themselves to store and possibly even share certain parts of my details? No.
Do I use Facebook, Google+, a Phone, my Internet, Steam, etc? Yes.
Am I partaking in loyalty schemes with retail stores? Yes.
Is any of this right? No. Of course not. However, I understand (maybe because I work with these things day in and day out) that 90% of the details gathered are necessary to have them function, while 10% is to be able to sell me more shit. I live with it, I expect it and I weigh each occurence as carefully as I can.
