Battlefield 3 - 12 minute Trailer

Apos, this isn’t anything new. Firstly this is in relation to EA’s “Origin” service and secondly virtually anything that is online has this same or very similar line in their EULA.

Best avoid Red Orchestra 2 on Steam as well then.

Shit, you best avoid our website here since we store information about you, too (including your IP address).

Holy F**K DO YOU?

i’m Leaving …

ROFL!

Mate, don’t change a topic.

I’m not going to install new application, keep it running all the time to play a one single game, because EA wants more profits from their games. Plus read EULA, does server web browser collect all your information about what you do on PC? No, but Origin does. IP storage for security purposes and list of applications that are running on your PC are way different things Harlow.

Geeeeeeeez it’s a game Chill! if you don’t like it fair Enough Don’t keep trying to put other people off. Ro2 And BF3 Are Completely Different, Personally I am Not buying Ro2 because I think WWII games are over rated,

Right now

It’s Like watching Children Argue “No games better, No Mine Is, No Mines got a in game server browser! so it’s better than yours” Who gives a flying F**k!

I’m not changing a topic at all. You’ve tactfully ignored the bit that Steam does this, too…so Red Orchestra 2 on Steam will have this exact same issue.

In fact, any online services (any MMO will have this as well, btw) have to collect this information in order to function. Any anti-cheat programs do this by their very nature as well to detect whether or not their game is being interfered with.

IP Address is needed to connect to the computer and transfer the game you’ve purchased, patches and DLCs.

The bits referring to Software and Software Usage are (as it says right afterwards) to facilitate Software Updates and Dynamic Content (i.e. DLC). Origins will check whether you own Game X, Y or Z and whether you have it installed and will then patch it (just like Steam does). Regards DLC it will check whether you own it, or the game it’s for and then offer it to you…it has to get access to that information somehow…just like Steam does.

Like I said - nothing new here at all. All companies that collect information these days have the clause in it that they may share it with third party services. In fact any Agreement or Contract you sign or agree to these days where you put your name down (be it for your Phone Carrier, Supermarket or Game Providers) state this.

Dude, we get you don’t like BF3. No one’s forcing you to buy it…but don’t make it personal, just because you love RO2. I don’t and any interest I might have had in it, truthfully, is waining rapidly because these posts.

Do I like the fact that increasingly more and more information about me is being stored all over the internet? No.

Do I like that all companies, no matter which, have taken it upon themselves to store and possibly even share certain parts of my details? No.

Do I use Facebook, Google+, a Phone, my Internet, Steam, etc? Yes.

Am I partaking in loyalty schemes with retail stores? Yes.

Is any of this right? No. Of course not. However, I understand (maybe because I work with these things day in and day out) that 90% of the details gathered are necessary to have them function, while 10% is to be able to sell me more shit. I live with it, I expect it and I weigh each occurence as carefully as I can.

First of all it isn’t RO2 vs BF3, it’s about Battlefield 3 game quality and EA politics.

I would say “think about Homefront, CoD, Brink, etc because it doesn’t require another app to run it, like bf3 does”

I would say “consider Homefront, CoD, Brink, etc because it has in-game browser”

etc

Steam is Digital distribution platform that is used by almost all game developers/publishers and I’m totally fine to buy games from steam. I don’t see any reason to install EA’s app to run their games only. Battlefield 2, Vietnam (first one, not BC2 DLC) or 1942 are good games that don’t require Origin, so what’s a problem to keep it simple?

Plus you get me Harlow all the time wrong - I was a big fan of Battlefield or Call of Duty game series, however since EA/Activision decided to dumb down massively their products and sell overpriced console ports I don’t see any reason to buy such games. I miss old days when I played BF2 or CoD 4, not these games aren’t innovative, challenging and lack of basic PC game elements like mod tool, dedicated server files, in-game browser, competitive support and free content updates. Plus if we are talking about FPS games - most important thing is hit registration - since CoD is fine with that, Battlefield has most inaccurate and bugged engine that I have ever seen. I also do not enjoy anymore these games because I liked mods, not available in BF3. I liked commander in BF2, removed from BF3. I loved to play clanwars in BF2 - unplayable.

at the end: you buy whatever you like, however it is bit stupid to preorder game that you haven’t played and say “it’s great!”. I played all these games and I base my judgement on actual game experience Harlow. Plus do not say I’m X game fanboy because I say again - I liked a lot Battlefield or Cod games, but their developers decided to ruin them. I’m not norrow-minded to EA and Activision products only and just suggest you to check all possibilities.

peace man.

Homefront, CoD (unsure of MW3, but certainly MW and BO do) and Brink all require Steam to play, even if you buy the disc version. They are “Steamworks” titles, meaning that it will install Steam if you install it from disc.

I for one haven’t pre-ordered anything other than Deus Ex recently. I pre-order what I know I will be buying anyway and pre-order if the price is reduced (which most times it is). I don’t only pre-order what I’ve played…most times that’s not even possible. As for Battlefield 3, I’m not saying it’s great – I’m saying it looks great and I’m sure I’ll have fun with it. It looks like a clone of BF2:BC2 really - maybe some graphical updates and such. I like the class-changes they’re doing and I like the additions to the character abilities they have done. Graphically and Sound wise Battlefield games have always been at the forefront of immersion.

I’m not expecting realism out of it. I’m expecting some fun, “drop-in/drop-out”, chaotic madness with things blowing up left right and centre. In essence – I’m expecting Battlefield and everything I’ve seen so far looks like it will deliver.

Bit of history; Steam started out with Valve creating a digital distribution platform for Half-life 2 and it’s others titles (I remember testing it for it’s first release - precisely for that purpose). They just saw the potential sooner than others is all and are thus several years ahead of the game.

I don’t blame EA for trying to get more people interested in their Origin service (which has been running for a while now); I do think they’re shooting themselves in the foot by cutting out Steam completely, though again, I can see why they are making that call- they don’t want to give Valve release rights to their DLCs. No illusions that this is all about making money. But then again, that’s what companies have to do; otherwise they won’t be around for long.

My views.

None of this tracking is a problem for me.

I own a license for everything on my machine. I never obtain any software or media illegally. Because that is theft. Strikes me that the only people with something to lose here are people who blag stuff. Well fuck 'em, I say.

EA have always been very good about tracking unsubscriptions and opt outs to marketing - a lot better than Activision and some of the smaller software houses. Their products are normally first rate in my opinion. And they even put the DX11 update out for Crysis 2 without charge. yeah so it wasn’t there on release day - they ran out of time. but they still got it out there and when they did the world could see that whilst DX11 was a bit better it was not that much better and they were right to get the game out on release day. compare that to trip wire or Bohemia who are usually a couple of years late to market with a product that we UAT for them for 6-12 months.

There are a few people on this forum who seem to want to hate anything produced by the larger games companies. They seem intent on telling us that the console “rail shooters” are for morons. Well I enjoy these games and I’m not a moron. In fact, When I tested at University I had an IQ in excess of 150 and I’ve had a fairly successful career so far in the 14 years since I graduated with a degree in physics.

I’m sick to the back teeth of hearing people complaining about “dodgy Console Ports.” I loved GTA4 on the PC, it was excellent. The CoD games have all been fun and challenging. I recently played through the “PC only” Witcher 2. A great game but graphically it was largely comparable to Crysis 2 and gameplay wise it appeared to involve swapping between holding E to block and pressing the mouse buttons furiously to hit. That and picking up everything and dumping it in storage in case I needed it later. It felt like Oblivion (2006) but with less freedom and a more linear story line. I found it a slightly longer game but a lot less challenging than the last CoD. I certainly haven’t felt inspired enough to go back and complete it via the other storyline route. I’ve played through most of the COD games more than once. Witcher 2 was certainly a big improvement over Witcher 1 which just didn’t work and was of frankly shocking build quality, yet cost as much to buy as an EA title.

I for one am tired of WW2 games. All the German and Japanese people I’ve met have been decent honourable people. I’ll give RO2 a go when it comes out but I can’t say I’m massively excited by it. looks to have mediocre graphics and the game play looks like more of the same. assuming it works…

Graphic doesn’t make games good.

CoD SP is fully scripted interactive movie. You don’t even need to fire to complete missions there. Where is the challenge? Multiplayer - same. MW2 was the first game where I managed to get 60+ rounds streak wins. Friends got bored after 30th nuke dropped in a row…plus lack of teamplay really hurts that game.

GTA 4 was poorly optimized game. Best PCs couldn’t run it when it was released.

How do you enjoy Battlefield Bad Company 2 with such inaccurate hitbox system and hit registration (the most important fps game elements!)

and now we have the same issues in Battlefield 3. Ask yourself, is it important or not?

You may say: they will fix it.

same problem since BF2.

In CoD (depends what gamemode) or RO2 (always!) first or second bullet kills enemy and all rounds are registered by game.
I for one am tired of WW2 games.
that’s most incorrect: How many “modern” shooters do you have now and how many WWII? Last good WWII/Vietnam games were released ages ago: Call of duty 2 (2005), Battlefield: Vietnam (2004), Red Orchestra: Ostfront 2006…when in last 4 years we have had: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Homefront, Brink, Crysis 2, FarCry 2, ArmA 2, ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead, Borderlands…I think there is more but can’t remember now. So many modern shooters in these days plus incoming Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

After all these bloody screens and ACOG/Holo sight norecoil madness I play with pleasure good, innovative and challenging WWII game only for PCs - finally something new /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

How I feel about this whole thread.

I’ll be getting both BF3 and Red Orchestra 2.

Also Aposky while you’re correct that BBC2 had issues with its hit boxes, I can tell you that when it came down to the game play of the whole thing, you would only notice it or have it as an annoyance once or twice through out a gaming session. This is of course not OK, but in the end it did little to nothing.

However, this have been patched out since and as you can see from your videos these date back quite a bit, so it’s hardly relevant anymore.

If the only thing that put you off was the hit boxes of Bad Company 2, i highly suggest you return to the game and give it another go, if its the team play you lack then true enough. Lone Wolfing is more bound to happen if you play on a server full of randoms, but once you join with a few friends you might be suprised by the amount of team work you can pull off.

BF2 is on a early version of the frostbite 1 engine, where BBC2 is on Frostbite 1.50 Its bound that some of the code when it came to the hit boxes wasn’t rewritten at first due to it apperently working fine.

Battlefield 3 is on a whole new engine, while sharing the name Frostbite with added 2 to the end.

I can promise you that almost everything is redone, and after doing a lot of Alpha play of BF3 I for one didn’t notice any hit box issues, I might add to that that my PC is of a high spec and I didn’t try playing it at low letency either.

And when it comes to the EA Origin thing.

It’s a tricky bugger, but one that also is getting a lot of heat from the community at the moment, one can only hope that it will turn out for the better, but we will simply have to wait and see.

This is Bulls**t can we stop with this?

it’s like watching two children cry…

Does it matter if Bfc2 had a problem? that’s what patches are for. Aposky we all know you have a wank over RO2 Regularly but Geeeez give it a rest some people do like to play other games you’ve got accept that a game doesn’t have to be perfect to be good. if you think Slagging other games off is going to make Ro2 look better it doesn’t it pisses people off and puts people off buying either.

Jones, you’re overreacting. No one has been offended. It’s a discussion on topics that people feel strongly about. It’s not like Apos won’t talk to me anymore because I like BF3 and might not by RO2… will you now Apos?

A little bit of (false)fact giving and (false)fact smashing never hurt anyone. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

Jones, read before you write such bs…chill out man.

No way man, you won’t get rid of me so easy /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

I do have to say,in the past , the debates on teamspeak have heated up to some level of annoyance of 3rd party people in the same channels.

Agreed

Actually, Conor, I AM offended by the constant barraging of any game that isn’t written purely for the PC and by some shit house, backwater developer that can’t afford enough servers to run a decent test platform. I’m even more offended by the constant insinuation that those of us that enjoy modern FPS games from major publishers are somehow weak minded and poor players.

Aposky told me the other day that because I spent 18 hours completing Crysis 2, I must be rubbish or doing something wrong. I thought 18 hours of gameplay was reasonably good value for a modern SP campaign but apparently it can be done much faster than that, which apparently makes the game way too short! I just took my time and tried to minimise my exposure to enemy fire at all times through it. Well, if Aposky and Fuchs want to look down their noses at everybody else then I can’t stop them. But equally, don’t be surprised if I get offended by their arrogant, narrow-minded stance towards those of us that enjoy the interactive, cinematic experience of am EA game.

Frankly, I think Jones read the tone pretty well.

Everyone just needs a beer stroke a bear, a cheese grated cake and smile /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

Moff I only said: Crysis 2 SP took me ~5-6 hours and I wasn’t impressed of that. Game was boring, short compared to first Crysis or Far Cry. Do not put words into my mouth that I didn’t say. Also I said that first CoDs or BFs made by big companies were great, so yours:

First read and then write posts mate.

I just wand to say that in these days it is worth to open eyes on other possibilities, don’t be narrow-minded.

Bump.

Okay, I can see I was wrong and this situation is just spiriling out of control. It’s a shame that we can’t have our own opinions about games without offending or being offended for it…it’s a gaming community after all. I think everyone needs to remember that. I would suggest this topic is locked, unfortunately.
