VBS 3

Is there much precedence for this sort of thing being ported to ArmA?

I personally would like to see a destructible world but I think we’re someway off from that occurring with A3 (possibly something they’ll add either much much later on, or in another version of ARMA).

My uncle owns Monaco, I’ll see if he can buy us all copies of this.. to train his Army /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

Meh. It’s cool if it works but I am 99% sure it would be buggy as hell. Arma 2 has problems with collision detection (trenches) as it is, now imagine how it would be with 20 procedurally generated pieces of debris.

it would be nice to see this but i think my frames would be blown to bits.

Looks amazing, but our server performance would crumble under the weight of synchronising all those changes.

I dunno, Dodge’s new A3 server is something of a beast.

how big of a beast ? do you think it could stay standing after flight and D squad have been taking chunks out of a town for an hour?

not ecc registered ram no ssd not server grade cpu not running gentoo

no hand tested ram either

2/10

Sounds like it COULD be good, but we’d need to test it thoroughly. As long as it doesn’t effect the structural integrity of our gameplay

You’re forgetting the real big boys here. Nothing quite like a bit of 105 to flatten a town. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

Would be awesome to have in a slightly more refined (i.e. pretty) fashion in Arma 3. But I doubt that’s going to happen, unfortunately.

Well it certainly happened to a small extent in ArmA2. A lot of buildings would lose a chunk (although not dynamically) when shot with a large calibre weapon. Just look at the ATC’s for example.

Definitely would be cool to see in ArmA3 though. Nothing screams “SURRENDER” like the sight of a 60-ton tank smashing through the wall of a house.

Snowy Sahrani. SNOWY SAHRANI!

Too bad 5.56 won’t damage buildings.. muhahaha /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

Damn, that realistic snow feature is something I had dreamed about for a long time to see in ArmA. It eliminates the need to retexture islands for a winter version. Too bad we likely won’t get it though.

But let’s not stop at realistic snow. I want a whole realistic environment system. For example rain that softens up soil or depending on temperature turns to ice on the ground which in turn has an effect on vehicle movement (and maybe infantry as well, don’t slip guys!).

One word, sexy.

Some of those objects have really decent polycount and high res textures.

Meanwhile, all ArmA 3 buildings are empty /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />.

Just curious about this VBS thingie, if anyone knows, how come VBS 2 looks pretty similiar to Arma2 at a quick glance but the cost of it is $3,190.00 for a single license?

One thing I hate in Arma is the empty lifeless buildings. I always wonder how much performance is gained from having nothing in buildings because for one of the scorpion missions about 6 months ago, I actually decorated an entire 3 floor hotel with probably 100+ objects and I didn’t notice any noticeable decline in performance.

VBS is essentially a version of Arma custom built for various NATO militaries as a training aid. A few countries use it, including the UK and US. The $3K price tag is for one license of the full product, but if you’re really interested in it you can get a Personal Edition. I’ve seen various prices touted over the years since VBS1 was released, but most quotes seem to be between $300US and $800US. You need to contact BI Simulations to get a quote though. I was tempted to buy VBS2 last year, but I’m kinda glad I didn’t, because every video I see of VBS3 makes me jizz in my pants.

And more:

Anyone got a buttload of money they don’t need? I certainly wouldn’t mind getting VBS 3 for christmas. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />
