That was a remarkably good documentary. Would be interesting to know more about the situation though. Mostly because they presented the plan in a way that just made it look pants on head retarded. I mean distracting the enemy so that the friendly elements can build a road without being attacked by the Taliban sounds sensible enough, but once the road is built, then what? If the Taliban were attacking the guys making the road then wouldn’t they just as easily be able to attack the people using the road later on? A little bit more of the bigger picture would have made it all look less senseless. Maybe that’s just me wanting the moon on a stick though.

As an aside, the New York Times just did a four page spread this morning of pictures of the second thousand US personnel killed in Afghanistan. Not a happy milestone. Made even more alarming by the realisation that they lost the first thousand in the years 2001-2010, and the second thousand 2010-2012. They’ve been getting hit really fucking hard the last couple of years.
