Knudsen Streaming/Screaming

What?! Command is usually in the thick of it anyway and can see exactly what’s going on. Jeez…some people think we sit back sipping tea all day long /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

Yeah, they must be confusing you with FSG… /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

I didnt mean it like that! Woopsy, I just meant it could be used so you or higher command could see the front line scope if your back at base.

Well, Slender’s all well and good, but I’d save that video up for the Source version they’re making.

More than one level, and I think you can beat it somehow. Still, it’s worth a go when release comes out (a few months from now, I wager).

When are we ever sitting back at base? /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

I’m at the front man…where I belong.

Though I think it would be neat to have multiple perspectives streaming at the same time!

Yes sir 3 bags full sir. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” /> a bit of an off topic question anyone know when assignments will be done?

They’ll be done when they’re done.

Seeing Kereluk‎’s thread

Reminded me that I should probably update with my plans.

I’ll be streaming Slender plus more(Deadspace/suggestions If I feel for it) Next weekend, or the one following more on that leading up to it.

An attempt of a cooperative stream where I will be inviting 3 others to do some COOP shit, this will probably be happening over weekends this month.

I’ll be streaming the new XCOM: Enemy Unknown next month following its release, it may be on a week day, or it may happen the weekend after its release. (Seeing as its out on Oct. 14 a Sunday.) again more on that as the game comes out.
I decided on XCOM: Enemy Unknown to be my first none-scary stream game, it obviously will be in a Let’s Play formate.

For those unaware, XCOM is a Squad Based Tactical Strategy Game, that puts you in control of a secret paramilitary organization called XCOM, whose objective is to defend earth from an alien invasion.

Game mechanics wise, you’re put in a position where you have to manage the XCOM base while also having the ability to fight out battles against the aliens, the combat in the game is turned based while the base management is some what real time.

It’s really hard for me to explain you’re probably better off looking up some videos!

Video 1. Starts at the 4 minutes mark.

What you need to know is, there is a fuckton of features in it, and plenty for me to discover with you guys.

The reasons I decided upon it is rather straight forward.

The game will be new and as such I get a chance to experience the game live with you guys +whoever, hopefully giving a more enjoyable experience as the ‘shock’ and ‘awe’ moments will be as new and exciting to the viewers as to my self.

Adding to that it will also give people a chance to watch and figure out if the game is for them.

I’m a terrible person and I usually pre-order the shit out of my games, but I know a lot of you are more of a wait and see kinda guy, giving you a chance to experience the game before maybe buying it your self. (Slight warning though, it probably will be spoiler heavy watching my stream.)

Due to the nature of the game it’s perfect for streaming, I will be put into positions where I’ll have to make hard choices.

This is where things get interesting streaming wise, it allows for a very interactive stream, I’ll ask for input or simply let you decide on some things as I play hopefully making the stream more enjoyable.

The game also allows you to fully customize your soldiers, allowing me to name them after some of you guys while also change their appearance to fit said persons personality, for example a pink Taylor with a funny hair style.

Tying into that the game also features permadeath, in short once a character dies, he’s gone for good.

I obviously can and will replace him with someone else, but I’ll stick to a home made rule of not remaking someone who died.

For example, if XCOM Operative Deadman gets his brain eaten by a alien bug, he’ll be gone for good.

It certainly sounds like a laugh to me, and with 60 something members, I got plenty of names to go through!

My rules/restrictions will be as follows, to make the game more enjoyable;

No loads from save games unless the game bugs on me.

Avoid boring play-styles. (It might be great to have a full team of snipers killing everything from the ‘spawn’ area, but it certain aren’t fun to watch.)

No remaking of characters unless they die to game bugs.

I hope that some of you will give it a watch, hopefully it will be a ton of fun, I also recommend something stronger then water while watching. (To ease the pain of my failures)

As well as gathering on Teamspeak for the social aspect.

Like my other streams you wont be able to speak to me, but you will be able to chat to me through the stream chat and TS chat. (Without TS sounds. CAGE)

The reason I went in depth with the XCOM part of my plan is obviously due to me wanting some feedback, if any..

I aren’t to concerned about the Cooperative Game stream and the ‘Scary’ one as those are kinda see through from my part and familiar ground some what.

Checked out a couple of the videos. If you make a character of me, he should be using a sniper rifle and be called Adam “Maverick” Hill /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />.

As for the coop stuff, if you decide to play Magicka I’ll tag along and explode/freeze/burn/ARSE stuff.

I’ve been put off X-Com cos I heard the squad size was really limited (something like six guys), and somebody pinged me a copy of Xenonauts (which is an unofficial Enemy Unknown remake). So I’ll be watching that with interest. I loved X-Com back in the day. Played the shit out of it on my old Playstation. Yeah you heard me. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

I agree with Baker.

Xenonauths feels like real successor of old good X-Com series with interesting new features, when new Enemy Unknown looks like ekhm dumbed down and simplistic game for teenagers. I wouldn’t call it tactical strategy, but 4 team action turn based shooter. I watched many Enemy Unknown gameplays and clearly Xenonauths is more challenging, player has (way) more options to do, etc.

Old X-Com series fans should pick Xenonauths over EU.

I disagree.

Have you actually tried Xenonauths?

Because I have, the AI is shit and far from done, they have less then 6-7 maps currently it’s utterly repetitive everything just seems far from finished.

Now granted its still in beta? But with a release date that is the same as of XCOM EU, I find it very unlikely they will achieve their goals by that date.

Xenonauths has a lot of potential but I don’t think they are going to be achieving their goals before early 2013.

The argument that XCOM EU is dumbed down is simply not valid, the original XCOM is the biggest and best example of nostalgia goggles there’s ever going to be.

The combat in the original XCOM pretty much comes down to you walking 5-8 squares then stop with enough time units to auto-shoot incase a alien pops out.

The tactical aspect is hardly there, it’s down to one covering, one guy moving that’s about it.

The globe and base management part is so simple and with little to nothing for you to actually do/manage, there is plenty room here for improvements and additional features.

I’m sorry if it seems I’m giving the game a shit ton of a flak here, it’s not meant to come across as such!

The game was great for its time, but with todays tech it simply would be insane to make a XCOM HD version without attempting to approve or add features.

People keep talking about game play mechanics when comparing the new and the old.

It’s simply bullshit, the game is awfully dated and while certain things hold the XCOM feel they can with ease be improved without loosing that feeling.

A lot of people look at this and go “Lol only 6 guys?” then move on with a rage fit.

Matter of the fact is you hardly ever used more then 4-6 guys in the original, and the rest was just cannon fodder or backup If something went uber terrible.

And even then you might as well of gotten a “Game Over” screen as you had been utter fucked anyway.

What you want isn’t 12-20 guys, its not randomly generated maps (They all looked and played same anyway) it’s not a landed version of the skyrander within your missions, you want the XCOM feel and become very defensive because you fear you wont be getting that with this new title.

After seeing a insane amount of interviews, videos and other media about this game I’m willing to bet money, that these guys will pull it off and achieve the XCOM feel while still offer new and exciting gameplay.

How much have you actually watched of this new title? And can you give examples of the teenage features?

Well I’ve got both. I suspect Xenonauts has more potential, but I’m thinking X-Com will still be a good game. As far as I am aware Xenonauts is still in alpha or something.

But the small squad size does fuck me off. I don’t need the game to tell me I only use a few guys. I like the option of a shuttle full of guys and tanks to take out a couple of Sectoids. Peace through superior firepower innit. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />

When people talk about dumbing down old classics I’m always a bit cautious, because Jagged Alliance: Back In Action was dumbed down heavily from the original but is a really cool game nonetheless. Sometimes a streamlined game is still good.

Based on reception from streamed RE5 coop-games from a while back, audio of me is supposedly funny but:

A: completely unreleasable to the general public

B: a PR nightmare

C: both of the above a couple more times

With that said, if you’re doing coop streaming I can try to gag my sense of ‘humour’ and come play /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width=“20” height=“20” />
